Title: The Night.
Word count: 1523
Summary: Gap filler for the episode, "The Pull." This is my very first fic and I hope I did the lj cut right? If not, I would really appreciate some help! Thanks!
Jax walked to the side of the bed and placed the gun on the night stand table. The room smelled of blood and gun powder. He sat down and tried to make sense about what had just happened. He could hear Tara whimpering in the background. He guessed it was better than hearing her scream. He stared at the bleeding, dead body of the ATF agent lying in the bathroom doorway and just felt numb.
He had never killed anyone like this before. There had always been a reason to fire his gun. Protecting Samcros members by returning fire on a rival gang was nothing new to him, but this . . . This was something different. He knew he had to do it. He felt his finger pull the trigger and he didn't even hesitate. And just like that, Kohn was dead.
Jax felt the rage returning as he thought about seeing Tara half clothed and crying as she came to the door to let him in. He knew Kohn had tried to rape her and he was relieved that he hadn't succeeded. This fucker deserved to die. He was stalking Tara and Jax couldn't stand the thought of anything bad happening to her. He told Hale that Kohn was going to hurt her. Hale said he would take care of it and Jax knew that he did his best. He also knew he shouldn't have trusted that Kohn would go quietly. Every instinct in his body had warned him that Kohn would be back. He could see it in ATF agents face when they glared at each other through the window of the police car as it stopped at the edge of town. Jax had hoped it wouldn't come to this, but deep down, he knew it was either kill Kohn, or he would kill Tara and he wasn't about to let that happen.
Jax felt Tara as she sat down on the bed next to him. For a moment they were both silent, just staring at Kohn's dead body. Tara stared to cry and that snapped him out of his thoughts. Instinctively he reached over to comfort her. She was trembling and crying and Jax held her tightly to his chest. It seemed to him that she was trying to make sense of it all too and he knew she was definitely in shock. He supposed he was too and so he just held onto her. He wasn't sure how it started. One minute he was trying to calm her and the next he felt her lips on his. They both pulled away looking into each others face. Tara leaned in and kissed him again. He held onto her and returned the kiss with equal fervor. He had wanted her more than anything he ever wanted in his life. This moment had been building up between them ever since she came back to Charming.
As she pulled his jacket off, all thoughts of Kohn lying dead next to the bed left his mind. All he could focus on were her soft lips on his skin. He felt her naked body tremble slightly as he entered her and it was if time stood still . . . It was almost as if the past 11 years without her hadn't happened. For the first time, in a long time, he felt at peace. The fact that he had just blew an ATF agents head off was the last thing on his mind as he thrust into her. Tara let a moan of pleasure escape her lips and Jax knew she was satisfied and that he didn't have to hold back any longer. The held each other as their thudding hearts returned to normal.
He didn't want to let her go. He didn't want to think about the body, or the fact that Kohn's brains were splattered all over her bathroom. He just wanted to find peace in her arms. He wanted to forget that the past 11 years without her had ever happened. He closed his eyes and just concentrated on the warmth of her body against his. The softness of her lips as they brushed against his chest. He didn't want the quiet of this moment to end.
Suddenly, he felt her body tighten against him and he knew that the moment was lost.
"Jax, what are we going to do?"
He held her tightly, as she started to shake. Jax kissed her head.
"I'll take care of this. Don't worry. I want you to get dressed and go into the kitchen and get me all the plastic garbage bags you have. I'll need some rags, bleach and some twine too. Can you do that for me?”
Tara didn't take her eyes off of Jax. She didn't want to see Kohn's dead body again. She nodded as she slid off the opposite side of the bed to get Jax everything he needed.
Jax quickly put his clothes back on and when Tara came back into the bedroom, he met her at the doorway. He took everything from her and sent her back inside to wait for him.
He quickly wrapped and tied the body in plastic. He wiped the sweat from his forehead as he lifted the body off the floor. The son of a bitch was fucking heavy. He threw the body over his shoulder and yelled through the doorway that she should go outside and open the trunk of her car.
Tara closed her eyes as Jax walked past her to dump the body in the trunk. When he was done, he came back inside.
"I'm going to finish cleaning up the shit in the bathroom. I want you to stay in here until I'm done. I'll take care of everything."
Tara went into his arms and held him tight.
Jax opened the bleach and proceeded to clean the blood and gore off the floor. He knew he had to do this right. He didn't want any of this coming back to Tara and would do everything in his power to make sure that didn't happen.
When he was done, he placed the rags in another garbage bag and tied it. He walked into the living room and sat next to her. She was shaking and there were tears on her cheeks.
Tara reached for him and he took her in arms. They were quiet for a time, not really knowing what to say. How do you make sense of all this? They had made love next to a dead body. He hoped she would be able to live with what had happened. He justified the killing in his own head. He knew that trying to Make Tara believe that what they did was the right thing, the only thing they could have done, might be a different story.
"Tara, listen to me. This could have only turned out one of two ways. Either Kohn killed you, or he died. What happened here was inevitable. And I'm glad you're OK. I don't want you to worry about any of this. OK?"
"Jax, how can I not worry? I killed a man!"
"You didn't. I did. And like I said, it was either Kohn, or you. He never would have given up, Tara. You have to know that."
Jax pulled back to look at her. Tara's eyes filled with tears.
"I know you're right. I just can't seem to let go of the fact that he's dead and that I had something to do with it. I took an oath to save lives, not take them."
Jax took hold of both her arms and shook her.
"He tried to rape you! He would have killed you! He was never going to stop until you were either his, or you were fucking dead! Do you understand what I'm saying?" He shouted as he shook her again. "Do you?"
Tara looked into Jax's eyes. "Yes. I understand."
Jax pulled her back into his arms and tried to soothe her.
"It's going to be OK. I'm going to get rid of the body and I'll come right back. Don't call anyone. Okay?"
He leaned down and gently kissed her.
"I won't be long."
He took the keys to the car and drove out past the highway to a semi wooded area. He dug a hole and threw the body inside. He watched as it burned and felt nothing. He knew that killing Kohn was the only way to keep Tara safe.
Tara was sitting the couch when he got back. It looked as if she hadn't moved since he left. He quickly went to her and drew her into his arms. They held each other for a long time. Neither one of them spoke.
Tara was the first to break the silence.
"Jax, thank you. I don't know what I would have done if you weren't here?"
"I'll always be here for you Tara. Always."
He leaned down and brushed a light kiss against her hair, as they sat quietly holding each other until the morning.
